Avilán had not pitched in the Majors since 2021, when he threw in four games for the Washington Nationals. 

He ends his career with a 23-11 record and a 3.43 ERA in 458 appearances, all in relief. He also had four career saves. 

He spent the 2022 season in the Nationals’ minor-league system after a torn UCL and Tommy John surgery cut short his 2021 season. 

He joined the New York Yankees after signing a minor-league contract in 2020, after he spent the 2019 season with the cross-town New York Mets

He pitched in 10 games for the Yankees, finishing without a decision and a 4.32 ERA. He threw 8.1 innings, striking out nine and walking five. 

Avilán, a left-hander from Venezuela, broke in with Atlanta in 2012 and had his greatest success with the franchise, going 12-5 with a 2.77 ERA in four seasons. 

The Dodgers ended up with Avilán, Mat Latos, Michael Morse, Bronson Arroyo, Alex Wood, Jim Johnson, and José Peraza as part of the deal with Atlanta and Miami.
